Jazz Up Your Mom Style
6 Things to Make It Look Like You Planned Your “Just Woke Up” Mom Style
I tried the “look nice” thing. Beyond the excessive prep time required (and yes, an extra 15 minutes in my book is deemed “excessive”), there’s the whole spit up thing and crawling around on the ground thing. None of the aforementioned aspects of mom life lend well to a perfectly-curated style.

There’s also this weird thing that happens after pregnancy and the baby pops out … one day you look in the mirror and think, “Where did my style go?” ’cause I know I had one once. Seriously though – it’s just kind of … not there anymore. And there’s this slight nostalgia for the days when you cared – but not enough to spend excessive (aka 15 extra minutes) time & energy digging it up again.
Enter: these 6 quick fixes to make it look like
a. You care and
b. You have a style beyond spit-up stains and dirty knees.
In other words – here’s 6 (inexpensive) things to make your “ain’t nobody got time fo dat” style actually look like you got time fo dat. Lets go from the top down …
1. Headbands & Hair Accessories for the days (aka every day) when you don’t want to brush your hair
- Tasha Floral Headscarf
- Cara Pleated Turban Headwrap
- Tasha Print Headwrap
- Tasha Wave Fabric Headband
- Elodie Cuff Ponytail Holder
2.Lip & Cheek Stain + Mascara
- Aint nobody got time for more than a 3-minute make-up routine. This is just the truth.
- Step #1 – Lip & Cheek Stain. My favorite is this Benetint Lip & Cheek Stain. I love that it does double-duty on the cheeks and the lips and best part – it looks totally natural but does enough to give you the glow you need. It makes the “I just woke up like this” line way more believable.
- Why “stain”? Well – feel free to go with tinted chapstick or lip stick/gloss if you want your little one’s walking around with your smooch marks. In all seriousness though, the stain soaks into your lips and does not come off. And I hate to break it to you ladies, but even “long-wear” lipstick comes off on whatever you kiss, or eat or drink. So do yourselves a favor – and go with the stain.
- Step #2 – Mascara. Benefit Roller Lash is my go-to – it hasn’t failed me yet!
3. Fashion Glasses
- Warby Parker – I wear these glasses because I’m just about legally blind. But I would also wear them (non-prescription, obviously) if I weren’t. Not only are they ridiculously cute and inexpensive BUT for every pair you purchase, a pair is gifted to someone who needs them in the world. AND not to mention – they’ll mail you 5 PAIRS you can try on at home FO FREE before buying any. LOVING THIS.
- Their Summer 2018 Collection is my favorite YET!
4. Jean Jackets #sofresh
- Now – if you live in a relatively hot climate – or it’s the middle of the heat of the summer, obviously this won’t work. But for all intents and purposes – walking (or should I say rushing) out the door to a nice dinner or trendy coffee shop? Throw this baby OWNNN.

- Madewell Denim Jacket – This is HANDS DOWN my favorite piece of clothing I own. And it’s classic, so I’ll have it FUH-EVA
5. Olivia Burton Watches
- I’m absolutely in love with pretty much every single Olivia Burton watch that
exists, but these are some of my favorites:
6. Belts
- Use them to tighten up a looser fitting shirt, jumper or maxi dress (in the perfect flattering place decided by YOU and not the manufacturer of the clothing item 🙂 )
-
- These Madewell Belts are AWESOME and so versatile
- AND this Halogen Skinny Stretch Leather Belt
